Hyperspace Routes

Hyperspace Routes and Trade Runs:

A hyperlane, also known as a hyperroute, hyperway, hyperspace route, hyperspace lane, spacelane, star-route, trade route, or jump route, is an area of space that has been deemed safe for hyperspace travel. The largest were known as Super Hyperspace Routes (SHyRo) or “shy-ros”.

Hyperlanes are routes through space in which a spaceship could safely travel without colliding with a body in space, or some other phenomenon such as a black hole. There are five major routes in the galaxy, with hundreds of secondary routes and thousands of minor ones.

Scouting new hyperspace routes is an incredibly dangerous task for an explorer. And very profitable information once the data is mapped and secured.

In many parts of the galaxy, hyperlanes also involve periodic re-entry into realspace. This is to manually maneuver the ship towards the next hyper-point. It is at these spots that pirate raids are common. For some of the more traffic-heavy lanes, spaceports and stations have been constructed at these waypoints for the traveler to trade, entertain and rest, in addition to defensive purposes.

Furthermore, the Galactic Empire and other governments have lessened the threat along the most economically important spacelanes by constructing deep-space platforms at hyper-points. Mine fields and probe droids have also been utilized.
